Items you will want for after surgery.
Ice, Ice, Ice….
As soon as possible after surgery you should get something cold on your face to help keep the swelling down and to provide some comfort. Here is an awesome ice head wrap which I found to be a great help since it allowed me to ice my face hands free. Other options are ice cream (the cold feels so good on the gums), cold wash clothes, and frozen peas. It is very important that you DO NOT chew any ice during your healing time.

Over the counter medications and supplements
Arnica: This ended up being a huge blessing to have on hand. Not only did it help with the swelling and bruising but it also offered some relief on day 3 when the pain was at its peak.
Tylenol: This is great to have for pain management. You can use tablets or liquid form, liquid was easier to take right after surgery but was more difficult to travel through the airport with. Check with your dentist for the correct dosage for you.
Algae Cal: Let’s talk about osteoporosis and the relation to implant failure if any. My doctor, Dr. Randy Roberts, recommends that his patients start on the Algae Cal prior to having surgery. Algae Cal is a calcium supplement. It has a mixture of calcium, magnesium, and vitamin D3 in it which are crucial for the absorption of the calcium. You will have a better increase in bone density with the mixture. Algae Cal also helps with implant osseointegration. Regular calcium is just not sufficient enough. (The link for one I use is provided above, but you can also ask your dentist as they sometimes have access to cheaper vendors).
Vitamin D3: I always also recommend for implant patients to take an additional vitamin D3 supplement. Especially if you are in your 40’s or older.
Antibiotics: Most doctors will give you a prescription for antibiotics to start 7 days prior to your surgery
Oral Hygiene Products
Electric Toothbrush: Once you are far enough into your healing journey you will make to invest in a good electric toothbrush. This will keep you new smile healthy, shiny and clean.
Water flosser: An absolute essential in my dental care. A water flosser will help you get any particles out from under your bridges, it will also help you maintain healthy gums and keep those implants strong and healthy in between your dental cleanings.
